Series: Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand

Match: Only T20I

Date: 11th January 2019,Friday

Time: 5.30 PM Local Time

Venue: Eden park, Auckland

Preview:

After losing the ODI series 3-0 Sri Lanka now have only t20i left to salvage some pride. New zealand would try to make a clean sweep and remain 2nd in the t20i rankings. But t20 is far more unpredictable and anybody can win on their day.

Sri Lanka in this series have only one good memory where they made a draw in first test. That test looked like the beginning of a great series but Sri Lanka have not won a single game from then. Thisara pereras brilliant innings or Malingas captaincy showed some magic but could not win a game for them. And their recent form in t20is isn’t great either. Their regular opener Danushka Gunathilaka have sustained an injury and will sit out. Kusal Perera should open in place if him.

New Zealand have lost 9 of their last 10 matches in this format. The last serues was against Pakistan where they lost 2-1. And this time their in form power hitter Jimmy Neesham is injured, Kane Williamson has been rested, Boult too wont play. Southee has been given the captaincy. But Guptill and Munro are there with Ross Taylor who is in form of his life. Lockie ferguson and santner will play alongside Sodhi and Southee. It will be Santners return to the national side after a year because of injury. Given Sri Lankas form New Zealand will fancy taking the cup once again.

The ground needs a special mention here. This is the ground which have very short boundaries and just a year ago Australia chased 245 with ease in this field. Bowlers will be taken to cleaners and very little margin for them is here.

In the last five matches Both the teams have two wins with one match being abandoned. NZ have won last two matches which were in Sri Lanka.

Team news-

New Zealand will give Santner a return with Kane, Boult rested and Neesham Unavailable. Lankas will miss the service of Danushka Gunathilaka.

New Zealand-

Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Tim Southee, Tim Seifert, Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, Glenn philips, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Seth Rance, Ish sodhi.

Sri Lanka-

Asela Gunaratne, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Dushmanta Chameera, Niroshan Dickwella,Lakshan Sandakan, Seekluge prasanna, Dhananjaya De silva, Dashun Shanaka.

Weather- The temperature will be around 24-26℃ with a pleasant breeze and very good condition for cricket.

Ground- Very short boundaries and a placid track. 200 is like a cake walk on this pitch. In domestic matches 195 has been the average score last year. Bowlers will have very little margin for error.

Toss- Without a second thought bowling would be the decision. 245 has been chased here a year ago and any targets are achievable here.

Prediction- Sri Lankas bowling is not up to the mark that why in absence of some Key players New Zealand will still be favorite for the game. Sri Lankas batters have to play out of their skin if they want to have any chance in this game.
