Series: Big Bash League 2018-19
Match: 50th match
Date: 03rd February 2019,Sunday
Time: 6.15 PM Local Time
Venue: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
The Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat are scheduled to lock horns in the first of doubleheaders at the Adelaide Oval. And both teams find themselves in a tricky situation, languishing at the bottom half of the points table in this edition’s Big Bash League. The Heat easily rolled over Ashton Turner-led Perth Scorchers by six wickets at The Gabba and they would be a confident bunch.
It’s a do-or-die situation as they are still in with a chance of sneaking through to the semis based on their Net Run Rate that is -0.176. The Strikers also need to win the match if they don’t want NRR to come to the equation for them. The hosts showed urgency in their last match against Hobart Hurricanes and won the encounter by seven wickets and would need to show the same spirit in their next game as well.
The last time these two teams met, the Strikers registered a five-wicket win at the Gabba. However, the hosts have got the second worst net-run-rate in the tournament. Though, they lead the head to head battle against the Heat 5-3. They will draw confidence from this stat and will look forward to making the most of the home conditions.
Team Combinations :
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald are the openers with Jake Lehmann at number three. The onus would be on skipper Colin Ingram and Jonathan Wells in the middle order with Harry Nielsen to bat at number six. Cameron Valente, Michael Neser and Rashid Khan would also be needed to play their parts, being genuine all-rounders. Ben Laughlin and Wes Agar are the other bowling options. But our cricket tips is Siddle will play and Agar would be benched.
Adelaide Strikers- Alex Carey (wk), Jake Weatherald, Jake Lehmann, Colin Ingram (C), Jonathan Wells, Harry Nielsen, Cameron Valente, Michael Neser, Rashid Khan, Ben Laughlin, Peter Siddle
For the Heat, Ben Cutting is likely to continue opening the batting with Max Bryant with skipper Lynn at number three. Brendon McCullum is expected to bat at four. The middle order also has the likes of Alex Ross and wicketkeeper Jimmy Pierson. Afghanistan sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Matthew Kuhnemann are the spinners. Right-arm speedster Josh Lalor is in decent form with the leather as well. Our cricket tips is Mujeeb won’t play. Swepson would replace him.
Brisbane Heat- Max Bryant, Ben Cutting, Chris Lynn (C), Brendon McCullum, Matt Renshaw, Alex Ross, Jimmy Pierson (wk), Jack Prestwidge, Josh Lalor, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Swepson.
Ground and Conditions- The pitch at the Adelaide Oval has been fairly good for batting as scores have mostly been above the 150-run mark in this edition’s BBL. Hence, batting second seems to be the most judicious option for the time being. There isn’t any chance of rain and temperature is also expected to hover around the 25 degrees mark with some breeze around, adding to the comfort of the players.
Toss- Adelaide have always liked batting first with scores on the board. They like pressurizinng opponents with quality bowling attacks. But Brisbane would fancy chasing on this ground.
Prediction – After last match Adelaide will be very confident of winning back to back games. Brisbane have nothing to lose and they can play with all their strength. But our cricket tips is Adelaide would be the winner.
